This is intentional for now, but will change.

Once you reach 3300 trophies, you can be paired against players who are much stronger than you as at this time you will be in the highest bracket. This bracket was made to be very large (in range), so that people can consistently play against other players.

However, we acknowledge that this is outdated and causes issues, especially now that we have a larger player base. As such, we are working on a solution.
